Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been honoured by a renaming of a stand at Old Trafford.
The Gaffer as he is (sometimes affectionately) known by his players, has been in charge of the club for a whopping 25 years, overseeing well over 1000s games at the helm of the club. He has won more than 25 years and is the second most successful manager in the clubs history after Sir Matt Busby.
The North Stand was unveiled to be the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand in front of the capacity crowd and the manager who was visibly aghast. After the match, in his interview, Ferguson said he had no idea and was honoured.
Ferguson was clapped out by his players and the opposition players of Sunderland and gave a short speech thanking the crowd.
United marked the occasion with a a 1-0 win with an own goal scored, ironically, by ex-United defender Wes Brown.
