Saj hits winning note in Lyric

Sajjhaa made a triumphant return to York in the EBF “Authorized” Lyric Fillies’ Stakes.

Valiant runner-up to Midday in the Middleton Stakes over this course and distance in May, Godolphin’s filly comfortably justified 4-5 favouritism under Frankie Dettori.

The four-year-old, trained by Saeed bin Suroor, was quickly into her stride but soon eased off the gas, with Fanditha and Bea Remembered taking over. Dettori had seen enough passing the two-furlong marker, however, and readily gained a clear-cut advantage on the near-side rail.

Although Myplacelater arrived with a powerful surge from well off the speed, Sajjhaa easily scooped this Listed prize by two lengths. The well-entered filly was last seen finishing fourth behind Lolly For Dolly in the Windsor Forest Stakes at Royal Ascot.
