This Sunday there is a full fifteen game schedule with a primarily afternoon schedule and the prime-time Sunday night game featuring the final of the Yankees-Red Sox series at Fenway.
Today’s MLB Picks:
Cleveland Indians vs. Seattle Mariners (4:10pm ET)
The red hot Cleveland Indians, winners of seven straight, attempt to wrap up a three-game sweep of the struggling Seattle Mariners, losers of six straight, in a Sunday afternoon matinee in the Pacific Northwest. The Indians send young right-hander Josh Tomlin (1-0, 1.29 ERA) to the mound against veteran left-hander Eric Bedard (0-1, 5.40 ERA) for the Mariners. Tomlin, who was 6-4 with a 4.56 ERA in 12 starts in 2010 as a rookie, finished the season strong with two wins in the last week of the season and has picked up right where he left off. Bedard has gotten off to a rough start this season, but he has held the Indians to a .219 career average with a 2-1 record in nine career starts. He allowed three earned runs in five innings on Monday in a 6-4 loss to Texas in his first start since 2009, coming back from shoulder problems. The Indians have caught fire and will pose a major roadblock for Bedard in this start, expect him to struggle and for the Indians to wrap up the sweep out west.
Pick = Cleveland Indians (+1.5 R/L)
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Los Angeles Angels (3:35 pm ET)
The starting pitchers for the final game of this three game series are Jered Weaver (2-0, 0.69 ERA) for the Angels and Jo-Jo Reyes (0-0, 13.50 ERA) for the Blue Jays. Weaver allowed only one run and three hits over 6 2/3 innings on Monday in his last start, a 5-3 win over Tamp Bay. Reyes, who made his AL debut on Tuesday after spending the last four seasons with Atlanta, allowed five runs and nine hits over 3 1/3 innings in a 7-6 10 inning win over Oakland last Tuesday. The Angels bats have heated up in this series, with Howie Kendrick, Bobby Abreau and Torii Hunter posting a combined .432 average with five runs and 5 runs driven in. The Angels are fortunate to have their ace Weaver, who has allowed a .116 opposing batting average this season and led the majors with 233 K’s a year ago, pitching in this game after using their bullpen extensively in last night’s 14 inning 6-5 victory. Expect Weaver to be dominant as he has in his previous two stars, and to stick around for at least seven innings in this one. The Angel’s sticks should continue to be hot with Los Angeles taking the final game and the series this afternoon.
Pick = Los Angele Angels (-1.5 R/L)
