The breaking news of the day-and it might shock a lot of people, especially Panthers fans-is that Jimmy Clausen is going to be a good NFL quarterback. I’m baffled as to why fans are giving up on Clausen after just his rookie season. Did you expect him to come in and play like Peyton Manning right away? The world today is all about instant results and quarterbacks in the NFL are not exempt from these expectations. Fans want a rookie QB to come in right away and play like he has been in the league for 5 years.

When you take a look at the talent around Clausen last year, what was expected to happen? Clausen does take some of the blame for the offensive woes, but a rookie QB cannot carry an offense with no talent. Most rookie QBs that succeed in their first year have solid teams around them. With a straight face, can you name one QB that could have succeeded in running the Panthers offense last year?

If Panther fans can be patient with Clausen, let him develop his skills at the NFL level and give him some play makers to throw to, then in a few years your patience will pay off when Clausen is leading the Panthers into the playoffs.

Remember the old saying “Rome wasn’t built in a day”? Panther fans need to give Clausen a little time to develop. If he can do this, they will be pleasantly surprised.
